Recently I heard “Washing of the Word” as clear as a bell in my spirit”.
I had been praying His word, Create in me a clean heart, Oh God and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10) and asking for more of His presence. I didn’t have my Bible with me so I googled washing of the word... which led me to Ephesians 5:26-28.
That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
(Ephesians 5:26-28)
This verse tells us that we are cleansed “with the washing of water by the word”. Water is symbolic of the word, which washes and cleanses our minds, our conduct, our character and attitude. Water is also symbolic of the Holy Spirit, our Counselor and Teacher. God gives us a new nature through His spirit when we seek Him in prayer…praying/speaking His word, reading and meditating on it. I so love the way He speaks to us points us to His word no matter where we are at, our maturity, in our walk with Him. He does not work apart from His word, ever. His word is a living miracle and His name is Jesus Christ. I’m so thankful and humbled.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16)
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. (Hebrews 4:12)
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
(Psalm 119:105)
So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.
(James 1:21)
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. (James 1:22)
He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. (Psalm 107:20)
